WHAT:
The clock is ticking and every second counts! Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is bringing drones to the San Diego Comic-Con in celebration of the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of “24: Live Another Day,” available everywhere this fall. Fans and attendees will receive a 24-inspired flying lesson from an FAA licensed drone pilot, before piloting their own drone. Each 24 drone will have a camera that will record video of each person’s flight experience, and participants will be asked to share their video on social media using the hashtag #24Drones.

Should any drones go missing, we have received reports that Jack Bauer will be in the area to recover them.

The state-of-the-art DJI Phantom Vision 2+ quadrocopters, will fly throughout the day beginning Thursday, July 24 and culminating on Sunday, July 27.

WHEN:
Thursday, July 24, 2014 – Saturday, July 26
9:00am – 7:00pm

Sunday, July 27
9:00am – 5:00pm

WHERE:
Petco Park Interactive Zone
100 Park Blvd. San Diego, CA 92101

WHY:
Throughout nine adrenaline-fueled seasons, legendary hero Jack Bauer (Emmy® Award-winning Kiefer Sutherland) used a plethora of weaponry and wisdom to combat his enemies. In “24: Live Another Day” he encounters a group of skillful hackers capable of hijacking combat drones and turning them into a terrorist threat. Now, these lessons will give fans the unique opportunity to fly a DJI Phantom Vision 2+ quadrocopter, the latest in small-unmanned aerial systems, giving them the power to control the drones and to “Live Another Day!”

WHAT:
The DJI Phantom Vision 2+ quadrocopter is one of many drones created by DJI, the global leader in developing and manufacturing small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) for commercial and recreational use. The company is dedicated to making aerial photography and filmmaking more reliable and easier to use for creators and innovators. Customers have chosen DJI’s revolutionary products and solutions across the globe for applications in film, advertising, fire fighting, farming, and many other industries.

Wow. There has to be more 24 coming. You’d think LAD would get a bit more of a stealth release on physical media if they were truly done with it.

Nice touch, great way to promote the DVD/Blu-ray

That press note is so cheesily written. I love it.

Can’t wait to hear what the 24 panel has in store for Comic-Con this week and whether the series is coming back for one more “bad day” or possibly the end for the real time thriller.

Will you be showing the panel live online here?

No companies are allowed to stream panels live at Comic-Con and fans aren’t allowed to record footage either (though that hasn’t stopped people from bootlegging it). Any potential videos would come after the panel is over.

All of the news will be covered here though.

OK thanks.

Isn’t there something a tad bit distasteful about the use of drones to promote a TV show?
Maybe I’m just being a bit pedantic…

I can see what you mean, but I feel this is just harmless fun. This isn’t a military drone capable of firing missiles obviously, it’s a consumer product that is basically a more high-tech version of the remote controlled helicopters that kids play with. I think it’s a neat promotion.

The comicon drones are just a bit of fun, I agree. It’s even more fun to pelt them with rocks when neighbours feel it’s appropriate to spy on your garden.

Yeah looking back at that comment I was being a little snippy. Apologies for that (I’m in Ireland and it was first thing in the morning when I saw this post, I didn’t have my coffee yet)

With everything going on in Gaza I don’t know if this is just an innocent little publicity bit or a strategic reminder that there is still a place in today’s world under terror for a character like Jack Bauer…thus leading to 24: Season 10!

Wow Im from Ireland too. Which part?

LAD made 3 very clear political statements

– The use of drones is justified
– Edward Snowdon is wrong
– Russia is evil. No, not just one Russian is evil and a disgrace to his country – the whole country is evil.

The political soapboxing has never been as bad as this, I suggest for season 10 they get the hell off it and focus on the revolutionary idea of good, original storytelling.

So who is putting money on Season 10 being announced at the Con today?

Me. I don’t think they would be able to spend a whole hour just talking about a DVD.

But they could spend an hour talking about the TV show.

No, actual money no… but I am excited to see what they reveal.

I can take travelers cheques if you don’t have cash.

Nah, I don’t think they’ll announce a season 10. The Q+A will include question(s) on whether ’24’ will return & I think they’ll be vague but optimistic… not sure what Kiefer will say after having put that idea down quite a few times.
