24 Retrospective Panel at Comic-Con 2014

FOX is holding a 24 panel at Comic-Con today and we’ll be summing up all of the coverage, photos, and tweets here. Comic-Con forbids companies from live streaming their events and also prohibit fans from recording. So if we do get video(s) it will come later on.

It’s probably still too early to learn about the shows future – Live Another Day ended just over a week ago. FOX CEO Peter Rice said on Sunday that conversations for another season haven’t taken place yet. This is primarily a panel to promote the DVD/Blu-Ray release (releasing on September 30th).

We’re collecting all of the tweets here (live updating) and will summarize the highlights afterwards. We’ve also got links to some live blogs below too.

I still think there is more to this panel than just the DVD

There has to be. I mean, who has a Comic-Con panel just for a DVD/Bluray? Those aren’t anything new, and certainly not exciting enough to have such an event. They’re going to announce one of three things: Season 10 (most likely), a Kate Morgan spinoff (very plausible), or a movie (certainly the least likely of the three).

I’m going to step away for an hour. Looking forward to reading the highlights of the panel when I get back.

I agree, to have a panel to only discuss 24: Live Another Day DVD realise is nothing to exciting and its pointless having one to promote a just DVD.

Maybe another series will be announced?! I hope as I want 24 to return next year :)

sorry meant DVD released

Notice how Yvonne hasn’t come out yet?

Yeah I was wondering why maybe they will announce the spin-off and she comes on to talk about it

Yeah it’s getting late in the panel now. Wonder if they’ll have any surprise guests.

Still no sign of Yvonne

I’ve only been following the live blogs, but it seems like it’s done. No Yvonne, no DVD announcement? Interesting.

Although honestly, I figured it was only going to be a retrospective anyways.

WHERE THE HELL IS YVONNE????????

Just went back and check and she said she would be at Comic Con, but never specifically said she would be on the 24 panel. She does have her own panel at Nerd HQ tomorrow.

I think the main reason most 24 fans have any interest in this panel is to find out anything about a possible 24 return. Obviously there is nothing to find out.

It was a complete waste of people’s time, I’m sure, if all it was was a damn retrospective.

I guess Yvonne meant that she’ll be at Comic Con for Nerd HQ? Her panel is tomorrow at 2:45pm.

Yeah I think that is what she meant. There’s also a Zachary Levi and mystery guests panel which she could possible be on as well.

Yeah, I’m hoping Zac’s mystery guests are the Chuck cast for a mini reunion. Whoever is his mystery guests are though, it usually pretty fun. I guess she could also possibly be part of Badass Women mystery guest panel.

That would be fun. :D

FYI for those interested, Yvonne’s panel is free to live stream (as all the other Nerd HQ panels are) and is usually available to view after the panel is done too :)

Did they even mention the DVD which this was meant to be all about?

Well that was anticlimactic. I honestly thought we would get something out of this.

So if 24 is renewed, when would it be announced? Could it be months?

or years??

Really hope not :(

I’m not quite sure what the point of this panel was since they didn’t even really discuss or promote the DVD at all.

FOX promised in their press release to show fans an “exclusive sneak peek” screening of one of the special features on the DVD/Blu-Ray, but didn’t show anything… No writers or other cast members were on the panel, no surprise guests, no announcements, nothing at all. Very weird.

Why are people so obsessed with Yvonne Strahovski, you all need to get a grip. she is minging, sorry but that’s my personal opinion, all women are minging because I bat for the other team ;)

Men are way sexy, anyway she is nothing special !!

I can only assume her champions are either virgins or deluded feminists.

I mean, she’s gorgeous looking and obviously talented as 9x10 will prove. But she absolutely cannot carry a series on her own, ESPECIALLY a series by people who can’t for the life of them write great female characters that aren’t villains.

Plus as ridiculous as 24 can be at times, I prefer it when it’s rooted in the real world, and in the real world female special forces recruits do not exist for very simple biological reasons; women are not built to be as good as men at running, shooting, jumping and fighting. And I prefer action heroes to be somewhat believable when battering the fuck out of their enemies.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for strong female characters – but when I say that I actually mean female characters and not simply male characters with tits and long hair.

Frankly, I think it’s anti-feminist to have female characters acting as if they are men. That’s not how we should be advocating and writing strong female characters.

This is what happens when you think “being back” is enough. It isn’t. They oversold this pretty mediocre repetitive (compared to the other seasons, not within itself) season, promising things they knew they couldn’t deliver, and they opted out on the ending. Look at S8, Jack was a happy man with Kim and little Teri, but on that day someone asked him for a favor and he got involved once again, he got laid, got his ex girlfriend killed, got his revenge and chose to be on the run for four years… so it took him four years of being a criminal basically to finally give up and surrender himself to either the US or the Russians. It was very stupid. They thought people would react well with this 2.0 finale, but of course now people want more, but they have nothing to announce, hence this useless panel.

well said will :0

Have there ever been any other panels like this? All I’ve seen are full of cast and crew, here there was only 2 people…so strange

Having seen the movie White House Down on Sky demand, I think Channing Tatum could be the next Jack Bauer if Kiefer doesn’t want to do 24 any more, maybe Kiefer could return for a few episodes and Channing could be the main star.

Channing’s character (John Cale) was very good as a police officer in that but I am sure he could kill terrorists in 24, he did a good job in that movie :)

By the way, Channing Tatum is very sexy and he is a hunk and I am a huge fan of Channing ;)

Channing Tatum is a pumped up chippendale fairy with a stupid potato face.

You seem to have a very negative opinion on a whole lot of people.

I’d love to see what you are like / have achieved in real life so I can really see how much better you are to those you constantly put down.

Probably not the best idea to share all the details of my personal and business life here, but I do find your interest flattering all the same, so rest assured that me and my nearest and dearest are doing great and doing the best we can, striving for improvement constantly in everything we do.

I like Channing too but he could never be Jack Bauer

XAM

You are just jealous because of his good looking and his handsome body ;) go on, admit it lol.

That comment doesn’t apply if you’re a girl but don’t know if you are a girl or a guy.

Not really Shaun, most days I struggle not to have a cheeky wank when looking at myself in the mirror.

I wouldn’t mind being as tall as Channing Tatum, or having his money though.

Well this forum is making some very odd digressions…..

Why exactly are we sharing our feelings about Channing Tatum?

Shaun started it :-D

Excellent, tha ‘s!

OK, Kiefer and Jon said they were changing the last episode because “they just could not let it go” meaning they could not kill off Jack and end the series for good. So basically Kiefer and Jon are on board with doing another a season. The FOX CEO said there are more 24 stories to be told so he is on board with doing another. So that leaves Howard, Evan, and Manny as the only ones standing in the way of doing another season or movie or TV movie. A reporter needs to get an interview with those guys to ask them about it. Maybe they are waiting to see how the DVD/Blu-ray sales go.

I think ancillary sales are icing on the cake at this point for the studio; between advertising revenue and sales to overseas territories, I’m sure FOX has made a mint already from this current season… not that they’ll be indifferent to lots of copies being bought once released!

If they are going to make another season – and at this point it’s likely if not certain they will – they could do worse than add an extra episode on, a 13-episode run as opposed to 12; Manny Coto mentioned in an interview that the writers found themselves “a little short of the runway” in plotting because of the tighter format, and having a little extra breathing room in a new season vis-a-vis a thirteenth episode would do the trick… but absolutely no more than thirteen, the tighter narrative worked well for the show, and if it ain’t broken, well, you know the rest…

I still reckon 16 is better.

Yes, 13 to 16 episodes is better. 24 LAD seemed a little too fast paced. If you missed one word of dialog you missed and important connection/transition between scenes.

How about first a TV movie that gets Jack out of prison in Russia or at least resolves the Russia problem. A prison break is a good plot for a stand alone movie. Then a 13-16 episode S10 that resolves the Tony Almeida situation.
