Casting

Jamison Jones

The sixth season of “24″ has added yet another actor to its already sprawling cast, with Jamison Jones taking a recurring role on the show.

Jones has signed on to play the head of President Wayne Palmer’s (DB Woodside) Secret Service detail, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is scheduled to return to FOX on Sunday, Jan. 14 with a two-night premiere spanning four hours.

The casting is actually a return trip to “24″ for Jones; he had a small role as a deputy in two episodes of the show’s second season. His other credits include guest spots on “Crossing Jordan,” “NCIS” and “Alias” and the feature film “He Was a Quiet Man,” which is due for release sometime next year.

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais has filmed a cameo appearance in cult US drama 24.

In the joke scene – shot for the season six DVD – Gervais plays a presidential advisor who keeps whispering that a crucial mission should be assigned to Jack Bauer. He then acts “incredulous” when a colleague says his suggestion out loud and takes credit for his idea.

24 exec producer Jon Cassar told the New York Post that Gervais was “just too recognisable” to put in the show for real, but added that another scene featuring his writing colleague Stephen Merchant will be seen in the season six premiere in January. “Stephen actually walks up to someone at CTU and hands them a piece of paper.”

Gervais has previously had cameo parts in Alias and The Simpsons. Together with Merchant he has also penned an episode of the US version of The Office.

Eddie Izzard as Darren McCarthy in 24 Season 6

Eddie Izzard as Darren McCarthy in 24 Season 6

HOLLYWOOD – Emmy award winner Eddie Izzard is no longer part of the hit TV drama 24 — after completing only one day of filming.

The cross-dressing comedian quietly parted with the show and is currently working on his upcoming TV series The Riches with fellow Brit Minnie Driver, which was picked up by FX in September.

Izzard has been replaced by British actor David Hunt, husband of former Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton.

Hunt will take over the role and play a villainous accomplice on the show, named McCarthy.

Richard Burgi in 24 Season 1

Richard Burgi in 24 Season 1

Richard Burgi who had a role in the first fourteen episodes of 24 Season 1 revealed that he was originally cast in the role of Jack Bauer – but the network wanted a well-known actor to have the leading role and they cast Kiefer Sutherland in the part instead.

TVGuide.com: Speaking of The Sentinel, you were once on 24, and now Kiefer Sutherland has a movie out called The Sentinel.
Burgi:
I know! I’m not taking it personally, but it’s very interesting to see that title on the marquees and to see the ads.

TVGuide.com: I consider your 24 character — Alan York, the “worried father” who “helped” Teri Bauer find Kim during Season 1 — a seminal one, as he was the first to show us that no one on this show can be taken at face value.
Burgi:
Right, right. It was a nice character arc. Originally, I was kept in the dark and then they finally told me what was going on. I had a lot of fun with that show…. Eh, that’s a long story, I’m not going to bore you with the details.

TVGuide.com: What happened, you got killed off sooner than you would have liked?
Burgi:
No, no, no. Actually, the producers had wanted me for that show, but the network wanted Kiefer [as the lead], so….

TVGuide.com: Having been there on Day 1, could you tell 24 had legs?
Burgi:
You know, the same thing happened with Desperate Housewives: I really didn’t think anything other than what we were doing was interesting. I liked the 24 script, which is why I was so passionate about it. When Kiefer got the role, [series cocreator] Joel Surnow called me and said, “I’m really sorry. But we’d still like to have you be a part of the show.” They offered me the role of Alan York and I said, “Yep! Love it!” And then when I saw where they were going with it, I thought, “This could go either way. It could be really, really dark and taken down a rough road and be on the receiving end of criticism about its content, or it could break new ground.”

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) – After spending last season bouncing around the Joss Whedon universe between “Firefly” and “Angel,” actress Gina Torres will take a recurring role on the FOX drama “24.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Torres will play the wife of a major donor to President Palmer’s (Dennis Haysbert) political campaign. With Penny Johnson Jerald’s Sherry Palmer also set to return, perhaps sparks will fly.

Developing a reputation for small, but colorful parts, Torres’ other credits include a recurring role on syndicated “Hercules” (and appearances on “Xena: Warrior Princess”), the starring gig on “Cleopatra 2525,” a stint as the nefarious Anna Espinosa on “Alias” and visits to the likes of “NYPD Blue” and “The Agency.”

After the cancellation of “Firefly” last season, Whedon wrote Torres (who played Zoe on the sci-fi Western) the part of unstable, god-like Jasmine on “Angel.”

On the big screen, Torres has been seen this year in the second and third films in the “Matrix” series.

Andrea Thompson, who left “NYPD Blue” to pursue a career as a news anchor, will return to series drama this fall with a recurring role on FOX’s “24.”

Thompson will play Nicole Duncan, a a technical specialist brought in by CTU to help stop what FOX promises will be an “ominous terrorist threat.” Past CTU technical specialists, including those played by Sara Gilbert and Eric Balfour, have had only limited luck, either dying fast or vanishing without a trace at inopportune moments.

The Emmy-nominated “24″ will return for season three with a commercial-free episode airing on Tuesday, Oct. 28. Thompson’s multi-episode arc will begin on Nov. 11.

After playing detective Jill Kirkendall on “NYPD Blue” from 1996 to 1999, Thompson left the show and went to work as an anchor at a local station in New Mexico. Soon she joined CNN as an anchor of its Headline News programming, a move that received decidedly mixed reviews. Just as suddenly as she left her ABC drama, Thompson ditched CNN in 2002.
Thompson’s other television credits include stints on “Falcon Crest,” “Babylon 5″ and “JAG.”
