This was a press interview conducted on the CTU set back in September, but we are just getting the details today. Here are a few of the interesting bits:
Q: Are your fans disappointed that you’re playing an analyst, because they want to see you kick ass?
Sackhoff: Yeah, I came in and sat down with the producers and writers and we had a discussion as far as what they wanted from me and what I wanted to do and hopefully we’ll all meet in the middle so we’ll see. Because I wanted to just blow s**t up and they were like, “I don’t know if we can do that.”
Q: Will we see any former BSG castmates on 24?
Sackhoff: Callum [Keith Rennie]‘s on the show. I pushed for that because I didn’t get to see him at the very end and I was like, “Oh, Leoben.” And I’m really good friends with Callum so I was like, “I want to work with Callum again!” So when they cast him and the whole bouncing around of his name was happening, I was calling him going, “Close the deal, you asshole.” He’s like, ‘Well, I don’t know if I can. I have to do this thing in Canada.” And I was like, “Just close the deal!” But when he showed up, I had no scenes with him. Isn’t that horrible? The crew is coming up to me. They’re like, “Callum’s so lovely. We love him. He’s such a great guy.” I was like, “I haven’t seen him yet.”

Battlestar Galactica fans were excited when not one but two former BSG cast members were hired for the eighth season of 24 – Katee Sackhoff as CTU analyst Dana Walsh and Callum Keith Rennie as russian mobster Vladimir Laitanan. Viewers of Battlestar Galactica know they had quite the history together and many were hoping they’d have an on-screen reunion of sorts.

William Keck from TV Guide Magazine has wrangled a little more information out of 24 writer Brannon Braga regarding Callum Keith Rennie’s character:
Battlestar Galactica vet Callum Keith Rennie, who played Leoben Conoy on the sci-fi series, will be joining his former co-star Katee Sackoff on the new season of 24, premiering in January 2010. Callum, who also had a recurring role on Californication and played Harper’s Island killer John Wakefield, will be playing Vladimir Laitanan. Co-executive producer Brannon Braga describes the character as a Russian syndicate mobster who debuts around episode six or seven. “We love this actor,” says Braga.
Expect Vlad to team in some way with 24‘s other new villain, Eastern European mobster Bazhaev, played by “Das Boot” actor Jurgen Prochnow.

TORONTO — Canadian actor Callum Keith Rennie has built a career out of playing very bad men.
With roles including a manipulative cylon on “Battlestar Galactica,” a bad-boy rocker on “Californication,” a serial killer on “Harper’s Island,” and this fall, a Russian mobster on “24,” the rugged performer says it’s good to be bad these days.
“I’ve played it quite a few times,” Rennie admits in a recent interview from Los Angeles, where he was shooting three episodes of “24.”
“(The bad guy) always has lots of twists and turns, right? You don’t get caught into certain styles of having to play it, so I like doing it.”
