Chloe O’Brian

At todays TCA panel for Awake, executive producer Howard Gordon has confirmed to TV Guide’s William Keck that fan favorite Chloe O’Brian will take part in the upcoming 24 movie. He also mentions a summer shoot date.

Chloe was last seen being taken into custody by two FBI Agents for her part in helping Jack escape the country (watch the full Chloe’s Arrest epilogue here).

Mary Lynn Rajskub 62nd Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Mary Lynn Rajskub has done an interview with TheInsider.com about her new show webseries Dicki, and of course is asked about the 24 movie as well. Despite Kiefer Sutherland claiming the screenplay was finished ten days ago (meaning characters would be locked down), Mary Lynn has yet to be contacted.

Mary Lynn might be pulling double duty soon since Kiefer Sutherland recently said that a 24 movie script was just about done — which came as news to his former co-star. “There have been no phone calls, no conversations, but I would love to read the script and take it from there. That show changed my life, there’s no reason I wouldn’t go back.”

But Mary Lynn did have one character caveat for returning: “They have to promise to make Chloe a weird stripper. I want to be mostly nude, because that’s where I am in my career right now.”

Mary Lynn Rajskub Photoshoot

We have to start with 24 – your most notable television role to date. Some people may not know that the part of Chloe was written specifically for you after the co-creator/producer of 24 Joel Surnow saw you in the film Punch Drunk Love (2002).
Yes. Actually at that time I had only auditioned for comedies and then I got the audition for 24 and I was like, “I don’t think I can do this right now. I don’t really do that. I had a really bad experience with dramas and I don’t think I can take it there today.” My agent said “Well I really think you should take a look at this. It’s a really good show.” I hadn’t watched the show so I went out got the DVDs and my mom is pretty savvy with TV and she had watched it from the beginning, so she was like, “Oh My God, it’s the best show. You have to go!” So the night before the audition, I watched two or three episodes and I thought “Wow, this show is pretty fantastic.”

I was excited to go in but on the page it was me talking to Jack and there was no character written, so it was like “Yes, Jack. No Jack.” Literally no dialog. So I go in and Joel Surnow met me in the hallway and said, “We’re so glad your here. I just love you. I think you’re terrific. I want to write a part for you…” Then he asked me what I think about the show and I said “I think it’s really really good.” He said, “You don’t watch our show do you?” So he totally called me out and I said “No. I just crammed.” {laughs}. So he said he was going to write a part for me and it was like a dream come true-totally amazing.

The full story is I didn’t really think he (Joel) was going to write the part and then when I got the part, I thought it was going to be four episodes. So I show up for work on this drama thinking “OK, I’ve got four weeks of work in this weird trailer where there’s a folding wall and there’s somebody six inches away from me.”

I didn’t think it was going to last but it did.

So did you get a better trailer?
I did. I got a trailer that I could actually take ten steps in and I had my own door. I was like “Wow! I’ve really made it!” {laughs}

When you look back, what was the best part about playing Chloe?

I think it gave me a lot more confidence in dramatic acting, and being able to be so loyal to such a smart character in such a complicated world. I’m just very lucky . I think the best part is that it was such a surprise, you know? Then it kept getting better and better.

Can you give a quick shout out to the fans of 24 who miss you and the show? I think there’s many people still mourning the end of 24.
I know they are. I have people on my Twitter – it’s pretty constant. The fans are always coming up to me and telling me how much they miss the show. It’s a really special show. It’s really beloved. It’s been awesome to be a part of the show. It’s a phenomenon. I have total respect and love. We had a great run and I was sad that it was over, but it’s like “OK, it’s time to move on. Cool.”

Mary Lynn Rajskub Geek Monthly Bomb Red

Another (non)-update on the 24 movie – Mary Lynn Rajskub (24‘s Chloe O’Brian) hasn’t seen or heard anything about the project.

I think we can safely assume Chloe would be on the short list of potential character returns, so the fact that she hasn’t been contacted yet probably says a lot about the current state of the project.

Reporters had plenty of questions for Mary Lynn Rajskub about a possible 24 movie. Unfortunately, the woman who played computer whiz Chloe O’Brian for nine seasons on Fox’s spy drama had few answers. “I’ve heard nothing. I’ve seen nothing,” Rajskub told reporters at CBS’ fall TV previews Wednesday about the long-rumored project.

Shortly after Fox announced that 24‘s eighth season would be its last, reports surfaced that Jack Bauer would make the leap to the big screen in a European-set adventure. However, the film has hit many speed bumps: thanks to screenplay problems and star Kiefer Sutherland’s new midseason TV project at Fox, Touch. “I’m rewriting the script myself,” she joked.

When asked if she knew whether Chloe would be in the movie, Rajskub again had few answers. “I’d like to think she is. I hope so,” she said. “It’s either going to be me or Rachel Weisz playing Chloe.”

Fortunately, Rajskub has a new day job to fall back on until Kiefer & Co. come calling. On the new CBS sitcom How to Be a Gentleman, she plays the sister of David Hornsby’s character, a manners-obsessed columnist who (slowly) starts to embrace his macho side. Rajskub said she felt it was the right time to transition to comedy after years of helping Jack Bauer save the day. “I love Chloe and 24 and it was an amazing part of my life, but I was ready to lighten it up and do a little comedy,” she said. “People have said that I was a little bit funny on 24, so with people laughing at me in a drama, why not be in a comedy and have people laughing on purpose?”

Despite the mounting evidence that a 24 movie won’t be hitting multiplexes anytime soon, she’s staying optimistic. “I hope I can have a couple days off from How to Be a Gentleman to be Chloe,” Rajskub said.

How to Be a Gentleman premieres on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.

This is hardly the first time that Jack Bauer and 24 have been mentioned on a popular television show, but definitely one of the coolest. USA Network’s In Plain Sight dropped a few 24 shoutouts in their latest episode including Jack Bauer, Chloe O’Brian, CTU, and even a “damn it”! Check out the clip below:

Fan favorite 24 character Chloe O’Brian made TV Squad’s “100 Most Memorable Female TV Characters” list coming in at #91.

Chloe O'Brian 24 Season 5

91. Chloe O’Brian

’24′ (2001-2010) | Played By: Mary Lynn Rajskub
Other women and other co-workers had come and gone (sometimes in a permanent manner) in Jack Bauer’s life, but Chloe was a bright, talented, somewhat antisocial (some fans believed she had Asperger’s) CTU analyst and eventual agency head whose expertise and willingness to challenge authority was directly responsible for saving the hero’s life on more than one occasion.

Since several people have asked me, here are all six of the deleted scenes found on the 24 Season 8 DVD.

There aren’t any audio commentaries for the deleted scenes this time around, so there’s no way to know why these scenes were cut. Most of them were probably removed for time reasons. [click to continue…]

Jack Bauer at gunpoint in 24 Series Finale

Jack Bauer at gunpoint in the 24 Series Finale

Since I posted all the stories praising the series finale, it’s only fair that I post a differing opinion too. Cinema Blend is listing the 24 series finale as one of their “Biggest TV Disappointments Of 2010″ and here’s what they’ve got to say:

Jack Bauer’s Dismal Ending – 24

The season finale of 24 wasn’t bad. It resolved most of the issues for the season and even delivered on a few big moments, including Jack almost being executed and a very touching final conversation between Jack and Chloe that surely made plenty of die hard 24 fans tear up. Did the finale leave a window open for the movie? Sure but as a series closer, Jack should’ve gone out in a blaze of glory, either buried in medals for his acts of bravery or just plain buried (because some great stories have to end that way). Instead, 24 ended with Jack all alone, injured, grieving and a wanted man who now has to go into hiding. Potential movie or not 24 deserved a better ending and so did we.

24 Series Finale Jack Bauer

The 24 series finale came in at number six on TV Guide’s “Best episodes of 2010″ list, beating out the Lost series finale (which came in eighth place) among others. Here’s what they had to say:

6. “Day 8: 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.,” 24

24‘s final hour ended on a complicated note — President Taylor realized the grave error of her ways, while Charles Logan went down for good. But it was Jack, hurt, spent and forced to go on the run, whose predicament was both familiar and bittersweet for those fans wanting closure. His tearful goodbye with Chloe — appropriately via video screen — broke our hearts.

Jack’s final call to Chloe O’Brian in the 24 Series Finale made TV Guide’s #14 unforgettable TV moment of 2010. “For a year that had a lot of big finales, that was definitely one of the best ones,” said entertainment journalist Jim Halterman. “It perfectly tied up the series and of course left it open for the movie.”

Earlier this month FOX asked fans to vote on Jack Bauer’s greatest lines at JackBauersGreatest.com and now the voting period is over and winners have been chosen.

Overall Winner (best of all seasons)

The very final scene of the series (Jack and Chloe saying their goodbyes) has been chosen by 24 fans as the best line. Hard to argue with this pick.

There was a question mark hanging over Season 8 for a long time, as to whether it would be the last year of the show. When the decision was made, do you feel you were given sufficient warning to make your peace with it?
Yes and no. We all kind of knew, we all felt it coming. We felt it the year before it happened. And the only thing that I can complain about is they waited and waited and waited to let the crew and everybody know. It was just that feeling of, O.K., come on, just tell us. Because it was really down to the wire. On the other hand, from the little that I heard on the business side of it, I think it was something they were grappling with down to the wire. It’s a strange thing. In some ways, you’re like, why couldn’t they make this work? This show could go on forever. But then, on the other hand, it’s like, we’ve had our time and why push it farther? Let’s make the ending work the best that it can.
