The Copper Spoon blog reports on recent 24 filming along with some pictures:

From Wednesday through Friday, the cast of the hit Fox show 24 took over the lobby, elevators and outdoor area of my office building, One Bunker Hill. Kiefer Sutherland and gang could be seen throughout the day acting in various different scenes, from some sort of bank heist, to action scenes in the elevators and on-foot chases overtaking the sidewalks.

LA’s blogdowntown offers the actual filming notice used:

DESCRIPTION OF SCENE: Weapons brandished. Driving shots. Emergency vehicles with flashing lights. Equipment on sidewalk, curb lane and across the street. Interior dialogue. Exterior dialogue. Occasional traffic and pedestrian control. Wetting of the street. Condor and crane. Generator. Picture vehicles. Bus move at 5th St & Grand Ave. Talent climbing down fire escape, running across Grand Ave. Camera ladder on 6th St & Grand Ave. People and equipment on library steps. Near hits & misses.

Although none of the reports mention it, it appears that Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff) is in the field with Cole and Jack. If you look closely in one of the photos, Dana appears to be holding a gun while walking through the crowded sidewalk of pedestrians.

As part of TV Addict’s 2010 predictions, they claim that Freddie Prinze has the chops to replace Jack Bauer. Personally I think Jack Bauer/Kiefer Sutherland is irreplaceable, but it’s nice to see that critics really seem to like Freddie.

Freddie Prinze Jr is the new Jack Bauer.
Having already seen the first four hours of Jack Bauer’s eighth consecutive really bad day, one thing is abundantly clear. Katee Sackhoff has been saddled with one helluva disappointing character arc. Complete with another round of the three “M’s” (Mistaken identities, obligatory Moles and Middle Eastern Terrorists) Jack Bauer is getting too old for this Sh*t! Which is why, should Kiefer Sutherland decide that he’s tired of saving America’s butt year-in-and-year-out, waiting in the wings is newly introduced brash young CTU agent Cole Ortiz, played to surprising like-ability by Freddie Prinze Jr. No really.

The first four hours of Fox’s “24″ are a welcome return to form. The veteran drama, which shifts to New York City this season, has just enough tweaks on the show’s familiar “conspiracy-complication-minor resolution-deeper conspiracy-bigger complication…” format to feel fresh despite its well-worn mechanics.

I mocked Freddie Prinze Jr. when THR first reported he was cast this season, thinking he might be a distracting drag on the ticket like Janeane Garofalo last year. But the actor is likable here and fits the “24″ universe better than you’d expect. “Battlestar” vet Katee Sackhoff seems frustrated — she’s great when she’s playing moments of total strength or total vulnerability (and best at playing both at the same time). Reacting to computers and phone calls at CTU doesn’t really suit her, she thrives in more active roles. Given that this is “24,” she’ll probably get her turn at bat.

The best addition is Anil Kapoor, best known stateside for his role as the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” host in “Slumdog Millionaire.” He plays an idealized version a Middle East leader with an Elvis-quality pompadour on the verge of signing a historic peace agreement. It’s a painfully standard “24″ part, yet he owns each scene he’s in. I hope producers pair him with Bauer at some point, the two scenery chewing actors going head to head, Kapoor barking his line from “Slumdog”: “It’s my f–king show.”

Jack Bauer

As you prepare to embark on your eighth action-packed day, TVGuide.com thought it wise — after looking into your future (i.e. the first four episodes of 24’s Season 8 ) — to pass on a little advice.

1. Remember to cherish your friends: Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) has put her job — and sometimes her life — on the line for you. Though you’d love to hightail it back to Los Angeles, there are more pressing matters in New York.

2. Remember that New York is a world capital: with world issues. These 24 hours will be unlike anything you’ve seen before. The threat is on a much bigger level, involving a nuclear superpower in one of the most volatile places in the world.

3. Remember that you’re an oldie: Sorry, Jack, but this is a new CTU and not everyone knows you like we do. You may not be able to get away with the same tomfoolery you used to. Tread lightly.

4. Remember that no one can be trusted: Keep that in mind while interacting with the new kids. Brian Hastings (Mykelti Williamson), the head honcho at the New York CTU base, may not be on your side. And he’s not always the brightest crayon in the box, so watch your back.

5. Remember that not everyone is a bad guy: Just because someone gets busted doesn’t mean he — or she — is guilty. So even when you think you’ve finished your mission, keep your head in the game.

6. Remember that being good on the job doesn’t make you good at everyday life: While Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff) may know more than Chloe the ins and outs of CTU’s New York office, she isn’t as perfect as she seems. We do like her soon-to-be hubby, Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) — and we think you will, too.

7. Remember that Renee Walker (Annie Wersching) went through a terrible ordeal last time around: We know you’re worried about her and you’re trying to help her, but seriously, keep a closer eye on Renee. By hour four, you’ll regret agreeing to let her back in the field.

8. Remember that there’s more than meets the eye: You’ve dealt with spies, traitors and moles, so this day should be a piece of cake for you…or not. Be especially mindful of this when it comes to President Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor).

Back in May, we found out that Sarah Michelle Gellar hubby Freddie Prinze Jr. would be a big part of the upcoming season 8 of Fox’s 24 (which premieres Jan. 17), but now we’ve got an EW exclusive first look at one of his early scenes with Keifer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer.

The former teen heartthrob plays Cole Ortiz, head of field operations for a reconstituted CTU in New York City, where the action takes place in the upcoming season. “We’ve attempted to call him a young Jack Bauer, but he really is his own character,” says 24 executive producer Howard Gordon.

Kiefer Sutherland & Freddie Prinze Jr 24 Season 8

Much of Prinze’s storyline concerns his character’s romantic relationship with Dana Walsh, an agent at CTU played Katee Sackhoff. (Sci-fi nerds, try to contain yourself!) “We’ve got a really interesting story to tell with these two,” adds Gordon. “What we learn in short order is that she may not be who she says she is, and it has to do with her past, which comes back to haunt her in the present. This wonderful Boy Scout is about to learn that the woman who he’s about to marry—she’s kind of the perfect girl—has secrets. In the tradition of 24, work and personal lives don’t mix.”

But now to the big question: Does he get along with top-dog Jack Bauer? “The dynamic is that, from the very first moment, Cole is enamored with Jack,” Gordon reveals. “But he has a few encounters with his hero that make him question that—sometimes you don’t want to meet your heroes. But the two wind up having a great deal of respect for each other.” But is that a revelation? Anybody who watches 24 knows you better have respect for Jack Bauer—or, well, you know.

ET Canada is on a roll – first they aired an interview with Kiefer Sutherland and then a day later, one with 24 season 8 cast member Freddie Prinze Jr. Don’t expect many juicy spoilers in the videos below, but Kiefer Sutherland says they’ve filmed a “couple days” in New York about a month ago and that “hopefully we’ll go back for a much longer period soon”. That’s certainly good news.

Millennium Biltmore Hotel

24 filmed scenes at 650 South Spring St, Los Angeles CA on September 28th-30th. Residents there reported that a SWAT team and a black SUV pulled up to a building with Jack Bauer getting out of the vehicle and entering a building firing off shots. Freddie Prinze Jr (Head of CTU Field Ops Cole Ortiz) and Matthew Yang King (CTU Swat) were also there.

Over the next two days (October 1st & 2nd) the crew will be filming at 506 South Grand Ave, Los Angeles CA. That’s the location of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel (pictured right) in downtown LA. Many feature films and television series including Ghostbusters, Spider-Man, Daredevil, NYPD Blue, and CSI: New York have used that location to fill in as New York.

Finally, it appears as if there will be some filming done in New York City after all – not for an episode, but for promotional footage. A search is currently underway in the area for a Kiefer Sutherland stand-in for next week. You may recall the 24 season 7 TV spots with Jack Bauer walking past famous DC landmarks like the Washington Monument – it sounds like this will be something similar. So 24 fans in New York, be on the lookout for Kiefer!

Katee Sackhoff

The second part of Katee Sackhoff’s Battlestar Galactica question and answer session (with BSG cast-mate Tricia Helfer) was put online and it contains an interesting mention of a scene from 24 season 8:

It’s interesting, because in the character that I play now on 24, it’s like I envy what I had too [as Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica]. Because now, my character steals the gun and then Freddie Prinze Jr. gets to shoot it! I was like, “Why did you have me steal the gun if I wasn’t gonna shoot the f**king thing?” (laughs)

Playing a computer analyst at CTU doesn’t exactly provide tons of opportunities for action scenes, but we’re hoping that Katee gets a chance to show what she’s capable of with a gun at least once during the season. With Mary Lynn Rajskub getting a chance to briefly become Rambo Chloe in a season 4 episode, it’s only fair.

Freddie Prinze Jr.

Sources said Prinze is joining the cast of Fox’s “24″ as a regular, playing Davis Cole, a recently returned Marine who runs CTU Field Ops and wants to follow in Jack Bauer’s (Kiefer Sutherland) footsteps.

On the real-time drama, whose upcoming eighth season started production Wednesday, Prinze joins fellow new cast additions Anil Kapoor, who plays a Middle East leader; Chris Diamantopoulos, as the president’s new chief of staff; and John Boyd as a CTU systems analyst. All of them are regulars, while Jennifer Westfeldt has come aboard as a recurring, playing a a journalist.

Also cast as a recurring on the 20th TV/Imagine series is Nazneen Contractor as Kapoor’s daughter.

Prinze, repped by ICM and Brillstein, recently co-starred on the ABC comedy pilot “No Heroics.”
