They say this interview was conducted before the Dana twist (and before this was revealed as the final season), so no questions about that.

iF Magazine: Battlestar Galactica was a series with a great deal of intensity, and you went from that into 24, which has a similar sense of urgency. Do you have any sense of coming back to a familiar vibe?

Katee Sackhoff: I’m quite into seamless transitions in life. I think that you are kind of directed where you need to go at the time, and Battlestar to 24 was a pretty easy transition. A lot of familiar faces that I’ve grown up with the last twelve years in this business and with Battlestar have been on this season [of 24] with me. So it was one of those things where I was welcomed with open arms. [24 executive producer] Howard Gordon has this calming effect on me. My life has chaos, because I think that I thrive on drama. Howard is my calm and whenever I get scared because I don’t know what’s happening with my character, I just kind of talk to Howard and he seems to put me at ease, because I trust him tremendously. It feels like home. I went from Battlestar Galactica, [which] became an iconic show, to a show that has the ratings that we wish we would have had. So it’s kind of the best of both worlds they’ve got there. So it’s been really great.

iF: Had you been a fan of 24 before you were cast on it?

Sackhoff: Yeah. I was a huge fan of 24 and when the opportunity arose for me to do the role, I jumped at it. It’s been great. So I was really happy about it.

iF: Your character actually has two personas, Dana Walsh the data analyst at CTU and Jenny, the identity she tried to leave behind. Did you do any research or preparation for playing either or both aspects of the role?

Sackhoff: I went to dialect coaching to get the Arkansas accent down. Jenny’s from Arkansas, so I wanted to give Jenny an Arkansas accent when she’s really Jenny [away from her CTU colleagues].

iF: Back to 24, how is working with/for leading man/producer Kiefer Sutherland?

Sackhoff: He’s a gem. He’s a great man.

iF: A lot of people say he’s still as enthused about 24 as he was at the beginning.

Sackhoff: It’s kind of hard not to be enthused about 24. It’s an action-packed, exciting drama with a great lead.

Mostly the same as the first, but shorter and with one new scene of Jack saying you betrayed your country.

The backlash over the Dana Walsh character has apparently gotten so out of hand that 24 showrunner Howard Gordon has issued a response to EW telling fans to be patient:

“God almighty there has been a Dana backlash,” bemoans Gordon, who argues that “thrillers have a finite number of tropes. It’s like saying, ‘Another murder on CSI? Are you kidding?!’ Moles and betrayals are the stock and trade of the show.

“I understand how it appears [to be] tiresome and lazy storytelling, but I really would betray anyone to try to sit in our chair and figure out how to do 24 continuous, real time episodes, without using certain devices,” the exec continues. “I would implore people to be more patient with Dana.”

I myself didn’t care for Dana’s antics with Kevin Wade in the earlier episodes, but after the twist at the end of episode 13 she has finally become an interesting character and I’m enjoying her scenes now. I really loved her “Tick Tock, Mr. Bauer – you are running out of time” line from the new promo and am looking forward to seeing her face off against Jack.

Here’s the promo for the back-to-back episode (15 & 16) on April 5th. “For eight seasons, 24 has pushed television suspense further than any other show. Next Monday, it begins its final countdown. It’s the final ten hours of the final season.”

“Tick Tock, Mr Bauer. You are running out of time.”

CNN.com: ’24′ Recap: Hell yeah, Chloe!

As great as I believed last week was, this week’s show delivered yet another adrenaline-soaked, action-packed sixty minutes. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the plot twisted, turned, and finally spun around completely.

EW.com: ’24′ Recap: Wall-to-wall action, eh Dana?

Given last week’s terrific episode, I half-expected the action to slow down tonight – kind of like a re-setting of the proverbial pins so the producers could begin the final march into the (series? season?) finale. Wrong there, sister! Not only were we treated to an overdue heaping of Chloe, but we got the kind of bitchin’ shoot-out I haven’t seen since that Colombian ambush scene in Clear and Present Danger. Plus, more Renee! And Bill Prady! And another CTU infiltrator! Isn’t this the 57th mole in the show’s eight-year history?

24: “Day 8: 4:00 AM-5:00 AM” Review – TV Review at IGN

…and hello, Renee! I don’t know about you, but I was psyched to have Renee back. She was easily one of the best parts of the early portion of the season, so it was disappointing having her off screen for the past few episodes. Having her show up in the nick of time to save Jack, effortlessly taking out a couple of bad guys in the process, was great.

TVGuide.com: 24 Episode Recap: 4:00 A.M.-5:00 A.M.

In another action-packed hour, 24 saves the best for last: CTU Agent Dana Walsh is, in fact, working with the terrorists, and she’s a cold-blooded murderer to boot.

Proving that you can’t please everyone, TV Fanatic calls this the worst hour ever. TV Fanatic 24 Review: 4:00 AM – 5:00 AM, a.k.a. The Worst Hour Ever

the 5 a.m. shocker – that Jenny is actually a mole working for Samir – was enough to make us wish the show’s title were “7” and that its awfulness had ended several weeks ago.

This interview appears to have been done a while back, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it.

In this exclusive interview, Sky chats with the beautiful and talented Katee Sackhoff – aka mysterious CTU data analyst Dana Walsh – about a number of hot topics… her character’s dark secrets, the relief of not having to carry a series herself, and the future of 24.

Al Norton: How much of a 24 fan were you before you got the job?

Katee Sackhoff: I watched the first season, every single episode, and then with the schedule for Battlestar I just got busy. And especially with 24, if you miss an episode you’re really far behind. They do that really good recap from the previous week’s episode. In all honesty, the recaps are so long on 24 that you almost see the whole episode. I loved the show coming in. I loved Kiefer, the whole thing. They figured out how to keep people interested in a show for so many years that isn’t a procedural.

Al Norton: How much did you know about Dana before you started seeing the actual scripts?

Katee Sackhoff: When I went in and auditioned I knew the role was going to go one way or the other, either possibly be a throwaway or become something more. I went in and sat down with the guys and we talked about it and they promised they would give me a gun at some point.

Al Norton: They didn’t tell you who you might shoot, though.

Katee Sackhoff: No, and they didn’t actually say I was going to shoot it, either, just that I would have a gun. I should have gotten that in writing and I should have made them clarify something like, “you are going to pull the trigger.”

Al Norton: Is it hard to prep for a role when you don’t know that much about it?

Katee Sackhoff: It is because I knew somewhat about Dana/Jenny, I knew that’s who she was as far as background, but beyond that I couldn’t prepare for too much. I had to really commit to the moment because you can’t commit to the story.

Al Norton: What’s Kiefer like to work with?

Katee Sackhoff: Lovely. Kiefer gives 110% to everything that he does. He’s fantastic.

Al Norton: Both 24 and Battlestar have very passionate fan bases that use the internet to talk about how they feel about the show. Do you ever succumb to temptation and go searching?

Katee Sackhoff: Yeah, they’re all like, “I hate Dana! (laughing)” I don’t go looking anymore. The moment during the beginning of Battlestar when people began insulting me as an actual person I was like, “and I quit the internet.”

Al Norton: Avoiding talking about any projects in general, how do you deal with being in the middle of pilot season and having your character and possibly your show be so up in the air?

Katee Sackhoff: The good thing about 24 is that I’m friends with Brannon Braga (one of the show’s executive producers) so it makes it easier for me to get some information out of him. I can find out enough so that I don’t worry either way. I haven’t had to gamble too much with what I am going to be doing.
