Here’s a radio interview in which Kiefer Sutherland talks about the 24 movie. Both he and former 24 showrunner Howard Gordon have been “very involved” in shepherding the project, which was written by Billy Ray.
“We’re gonna hopefully start production in April on the film, and that’ll be out later on in the year. We’re still a few months away, but we’ve got a script that we’re very excited about and we’re moving forward.”
When the interviewer asks Kiefer why the delay, Kiefer blamed his upcoming Fox television series Touch. “It’s something that kind of took up a lot of space for us to do, and that is as responsible as anything for us having to push the movie back about seven months,” said Kiefer.
(Thanks Rob for sending this in!)

Kiefer Sutherland has some great news for 24 fans – the screenplay for the movie has been finished and production is scheduled to start near the end of April.
“We’re very close (to a movie). We’ve worked very long and hard the last two years on a screenplay. It was actually much more difficult to take this idea that was in 24, which had 24 hours and 24 episodes to tell a story, and condense that into two hours. We thought it would be easier but it was much more difficult.
“Now a wonderful writer named Billy Ray has finished the screenplay. Hopefully we’re looking at the end of April to start production, and we’ll see.” [click to continue…]

Good news 24 fans – Kiefer Sutherland has revealed the 24 movie script is “very close” to completion.
When will we see the much talked about and anticipated big screen version of 24?
We are coming very close to having a finished script. That’s been the most difficult thing. You have to remember that we have 24 hours to explain the stories in 24 and so trying to condense that into a two-hour film version has been a real shift in gear for us.We were originally trying to make it too big and put too much into it – but once we relaxed, we found out how to tell that story. So yes we definitely do plan on making the film.
Did you have any idea, at the start of 24, how it was going to captivate audiences worldwide?
It is seen all over the globe and to be able to be a part of a project that transcended languages and cultures over a long sustained period of time has been great. It was the largest audience I have ever had and it was an absolute thrill to work on that show. But it also changed things for me. It did so much for my confidence. For those reasons alone I will be forever in debt to the experience I’ve had with 24.
Are you still enjoying working in television as well as film?
I like doing television – some of the best work I am seeing right now is on television. TV is where it’s going. As long as the scripts are interesting I don’t care where they are shown.

While doing press for his upcoming film Melancholia, Kiefer Sutherland told Entertainment Tonight’s Matte Babel that he hopes to start filming the 24 movie in March 2012.
Kiefer had previously said “there’s a real strong push to start in January” and to get the film released in theaters by Summer 2012, which FOX called “overly optimistic“. Let’s see if this new date pans out (I wouldn’t hold my breath, personally).

Actor Riley Smith who played Kyle Singer in 24‘s third season was just interviewed about his role and what it was like to work with Kiefer Sutherland.
You played Kyle Singer in season 3 of “24″ who had a tough storyline but survived. What was your hardest scene to play?
Every scene of “24″ for me came so easy and natural. The writing, directing and camera team is so flawless that it makes us as actors on the show look good. As far as my favorite scene, I would have to say when I was behind the glass in the hospital talking with my parents about dying. It was a very emotional scene. The director was actually crying when we got done. I had a lot of personal things with my parents that I could use for that dialogue and I just tapped into that and let it out. I loved every second of that opportunity and have been fortunate enough to have worked with Joel Surnow (the creator) 3 more times and call him a friend. I pray for another show like that everyday.Kiefer Sutherland has an intense presence on screen, what was working with him like?
Kiefer is awesome and I was a huge fan growing up. I didn’t work with him a lot because he was always chasing me in the show. But I did hang with him on set a lot and heard some of the most amazing stories that I will re-tell forever. But not to the public ;)

Kiefer Sutherland will earn a whopping $225,000 per episode on his upcoming television series Touch according to this weeks issue of TV Guide Magazine.
Although that’s half the paycheck he was earning from the later seasons of 24 ($550,000 per episode), it still puts him in the top ten of highest paid actors in a television drama. Not bad at all for the very first season of a show.
Here are the top paid drama actors for those curious:

Nothing really new here, but Brian Grazer has mentioned they are still “working on” the 24 movie at his production company Imagine Entertainment.
DEADLINE: I am going to toss out Imagine film and TV titles at you. Give me the first memory that pops into your mind. 24?
GRAZER: Kiefer Sutherland and how not only did he play Jack Bauer more successfully than anyone else could have, but proved himself to be a surprisingly talented television producer who took charge and demonstrated taste and discipline. And we’re working on that 24 feature.

Kiefer Sutherland’s FOX drama pilot Touch has completed casting its series regulars with the addition of David Mazouz, Danny Glover, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

TV Line reports that Danny Glover has been cast as Arthur DeWitt, a professor and an expert on children who possess special gifts when it comes to numbers.

Mbatha-Raw will play Clea Hopkins, a social worker with Child and Family Services, who is evaluating Martin’s living situation to determine whether or not his son Jake should remain in the home. Mbatha-Raw completes the pilot’s core four-member cast, which also includes Danny Glover.
The pilot begins shooting within the next few days and will most likely be picked up by FOX for a mid-season run.

Extra’s AJ Calloway has interviewed Kiefer Sutherland in New York City about the upcoming 24 movie. While it’s mostly stuff he’s been saying before, he teases a bit more at the end.
Let’s just talk 24 for a minute. What’s the status of the film and what can the fans expect?
Brian Grazer and Ron Howard who run Imagine [Entertainment] produced the television show in coordination with FOX and there’s a real strong push to start in January and hopefully have the film out by — it is slated right now for the summer of 2012. As in everything, nothing is etched in stone, but everything is moving towards that. And so I’m very excited. We’ve worked very hard to try and get the script in, you know, that was going to encompass all of the sentiments of 24 the series but really take us in another direction. And I think that’s been a real task. And so it’s taken us a little while, but I am very optimistic and cautiously optimistic. We’re going to start hopefully in January.
What would you like to see Jack do in the movie?
I wanna see Jack do a lot of things that were representative of the show, but I think one of the things I certainly felt as an actor playing him, I wanted him to be able to take his life back. And I think that’s going to be a large aspect of the film.
