When you need a bad-ass, who better to call than Michael Madsen, who has played that role so well in such films as Reservoir Dogs, Thelma & Louise, Kill Bill and Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (er…scratch that last one)? Now, the much sought-after 52-year-old has been cast on Fox’s 24 as Jim Ricker, a character sources describe to me as an ex-military guy from Jack Bauer’s past. Meaning, of course, a bad-ass.
Ricker will pop up as the clock ticks toward the final hours of Day Eight, which is looking more and more like Jack’s last day on TV before he heads to the movies.
Although it wasn’t mentioned in the article, I know Madsen has been filming 24 since February. There’s a recent photo of him on the set here. Could Ricker’s ex-military roots tie into the Operation Nightfall mission perhaps? Whatever the case may be, Michael Madsen should be a pretty cool addition to 24 – Madsen has played some great villains in the past.

Nazanin Boniadi (General Hospital’s Leyla Mir) has been cast on 24 as simply “blonde woman” – she can be seen in the set photos from yesterday wearing a (terrible looking) blonde wig.
It appears as if Michael Gaston (Jericho’s Gray Anderson) is playing a character named General David Brucker who first appears in the fourteenth episode (5:00 a.m.-6:00 a.m.).
Actor and stuntman Chris Gann is playing a character named Mathis in the 14th episode. He actually played two characters on 24 before (in addition to doing stunt work for the show), both in the same season. First he was a CTU sniper, then he played Phillip Bauer’s henchman in the season 6 finale. No word on if his season 8 character is good or bad.
Jamison Haase seems to be playing a character named “Jim Payne” in the 16th episode (7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m.).
Assaf Cohen has posted on his website that “he returns to 24 in 2010 as a bad guy” (Cohen had previously played a terrorist in the fourth season of 24).
Actor Larry Sullivan who played a Secret Service agent in season 7, updated his Twitter with the tweet “Fitting for 24 this afternoon…glad to be asked back…excited to work with the lovely and talented Cherry Jones again.”

You may have been watching the newly released 24 trailer and wondering which actor plays this frequently seen sniper:

That would be none other than Cliff Simon, best known for portraying Ba’al in Stargate SG-1. The official Cliff Simon fansite has his character listed as “Russian Sniper” with an appearance in the first episode of the season.
Akbar Kurtha plays Farhad Hasan. He can be spotted briefly in the leaked “Survive” promo – walking alongside his brother Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor), Omar’s bodyguard Tarin Karoush, Jamot (played by Navid Negahban), and being led by Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr). As a refresher, here’s the casting call for Farhad Hassan (then known as Hashemi):
Farhad Hashemi, Middle Eastern, 30s – 40s. Hashemi is the Secretary of State of a fictional Middle Eastern country, and his brother is the President. He does not completely trust the Americans, and he is reluctant to enter into a peace treaty with the United States.

If you’ve followed our Twitter, you may have noticed our post a few days ago pointing to David Anders being listed as 24 character “Josef”. Today, Natalie Abrams from E! Online has gotten official confirmation from Anders reps that he has joined the cast of 24.
From Julian Sark on Alias to Adam Monroe on Heroes, David Anders just can’t keep away from our favorite TV shows.
Reps for Anders confirm to us that David will be a recurring character on season eight of 24, joining the likes of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff. 24 is really beefing up its cast this year, raising alarm in fans that it will truly be the final season.
So what’s David doing this season while Jack Bauer is hunting terrorists in New York, and how long will he be sticking around?
“He will be in a handful of episodes,” says David’s rep.
The rep was coy to say what his part would be, but when asked if David’s new 24 character would go the way of Adam Monroe on Heroes, he laughed and said, “You never know.”
