Brian Grazer, Producer on 24 movie

While at a press conference for Clint Eastwood’s new biopic J Edgar, journalist Ed Symkus bumped into Brian Grazer (who produced that movie and is producing the 24 movie) on an elevator and asked him a bit about the status of the 24 movie.

“We’re working on it,” he said. “We’re making the movie. We have a script, and the casting is going along great. We’re about to start casting the main antagonist, the person who plays against Jack Bauer. We have a really great role to play against Kiefer.”

I asked him when he thinks we’re going to see the film.

“I hope to have it out in the first quarter of 2012,” he said.

Howard Gordon did an interview with Sky UK and revealed that at one point early on, network executives were considering Jeff Goldblum for the role of Jack Bauer. “But once Kiefer [Sutherland] came up that was pretty much done”, he says.

He also speaks of the final scene in the series finale and briefly about the upcoming 24 movie.

Disclaimer: This was an April Fool’s Day joke and is not real. Thanks to all of those who played along and retweeted/shared etc. Sorry for those that got fooled – be glad it’s not real!

Canadian pop star and teen sensation Justin Bieber has joined the cast of 24, playing an ambitious young CTU Field Agent who will partner with Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in the final two episodes.

“Justin is nothing short of a phenomenon,” says “24″ executive producer and showrunner, Howard Gordon. “It’s so rare to find an artist this young with such pure star quality and dynamic presence. This is an exciting time for Justin Bieber fans, for the 24 family, and for television in general.”

“Bieber Fever has taken over with 150 million views on YouTube and total domination of Twitter trending topics for months. This series finale will be the most talked about television event of the decade thanks to Bieber’s star power,’” Fox TV spokesman Chris Alexander added.

24 has traditionally cast Canadian actors including Elisha Cuthbert, Leslie Hope, Carlo Rota, and Colm Feore as First Gentleman Henry Taylor. The series star, Kiefer Sutherland, and it’s directors Brad Turner and Milan Cheylov are also Canadian.

Bieber’s newest album “My World 2.0″ sold over 283,000 copies in the past week according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, earning him the number one spot on Billboard 200.

Production on the “24″ series wraps next week after eight years. At the conclusion of Season 8, 24 will have a produced a total of 194 episodes (including “24: Redemption”), making it one of the longest-running action television shows in history.

24 is bringing in a TV veteran to help save Jack’s latest (and possibly last) bad day: Eriq La Salle has signed on to appear in this season’s final two episodes, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The former ER doc will play the charming and regal UN Secretary General.

Fox has yet to officially announce whether 24 will end its eight-season run this May but clues continue to pop up that suggest otherwise. Here’s the latest: a casting call for the role of a U.N. secretary general on 24 went out to talent agencies this week and included an advisory: “These are the final episodes, so if some of your name people would like to do something on the show, this is the time for them to do it.”

This can be taken one of two ways – the final episodes of the season, or the final episodes of the series. It doesn’t sound too promising though: when read in context, the casting call is basically telling actors ‘now is your last chance to be on 24‘.

When you need a bad-ass, who better to call than Michael Madsen, who has played that role so well in such films as Reservoir Dogs, Thelma & Louise, Kill Bill and Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (er…scratch that last one)? Now, the much sought-after 52-year-old has been cast on Fox’s 24 as Jim Ricker, a character sources describe to me as an ex-military guy from Jack Bauer’s past. Meaning, of course, a bad-ass.

Ricker will pop up as the clock ticks toward the final hours of Day Eight, which is looking more and more like Jack’s last day on TV before he heads to the movies.

Although it wasn’t mentioned in the article, I know Madsen has been filming 24 since February. There’s a recent photo of him on the set here. Could Ricker’s ex-military roots tie into the Operation Nightfall mission perhaps? Whatever the case may be, Michael Madsen should be a pretty cool addition to 24 – Madsen has played some great villains in the past.

Nazanin Boniadi 24 Season 8

Nazanin Boniadi (General Hospital’s Leyla Mir) has been cast on 24 as simply “blonde woman” – she can be seen in the set photos from yesterday wearing a (terrible looking) blonde wig.

It appears as if Michael Gaston (Jericho‘s Gray Anderson) is playing a character named General David Brucker who first appears in the fourteenth episode (5:00 a.m.-6:00 a.m.). [click to continue…]

You may have been watching the newly released 24 trailer and wondering which actor plays this frequently seen sniper:

Cliff Simon

That would be none other than Cliff Simon, best known for portraying Ba’al in Stargate SG-1. The official Cliff Simon fansite has his character listed as “Russian Sniper” with an appearance in the first episode of the season.
