Callum Keith Rennie

TORONTO — Canadian actor Callum Keith Rennie has built a career out of playing very bad men.

With roles including a manipulative cylon on “Battlestar Galactica,” a bad-boy rocker on “Californication,” a serial killer on “Harper’s Island,” and this fall, a Russian mobster on “24,” the rugged performer says it’s good to be bad these days.

“I’ve played it quite a few times,” Rennie admits in a recent interview from Los Angeles, where he was shooting three episodes of “24.”

“(The bad guy) always has lots of twists and turns, right? You don’t get caught into certain styles of having to play it, so I like doing it.”

Katee Sackhoff

Katee Sackhoff has answered fan questions in the first “Ask Katee” Q&A session posted on her official website. In it contains a brief mention of 24.

For those who don’t know, I’m doing 24 now, which was just a fantastic choice for me. I love the show, I think it’s fun and I think that after the experience of the [Lost and Found] pilot and being so let down, I needed to do something that felt familiar to me, and because I’ve watched 24, that was it. And also, after working on it, I couldn’t have picked a more similar situation to Battlestar to go into. There’s such a family there and it’s fantastic. I’m having a great time.

Nazneen Contractor

24 producers, luckily including a few Canadians who knew her work, cast her — but for only two episodes–as Kayla Hashemi, the beautiful daughter of an Islamic president. After wrapping the two episodes in June, she got an unexpected call saying they wanted her back–for 11 more.

“I’m ecstatic they liked my character enough to keep me going,” says the bookishly sexy and sultry brunette who was born in Mumbai, India, but moved to Toronto as a child.

“It’s always been my favourite show, my mother and I watched it together every week and when I came to Los Angeles (for audition season), she said, ‘Can’t you get a job on 24?’ ”

But more about 24: will she tell us why her character will be coming back so often for the much anticipated new season that begins in January?

“On 24, they write the show as they go along. Honestly, I haven’t been told . . . (but) I hope I end up being kidnapped.” She hasn’t filmed a scene yet with fellow Canadian Kiefer Sutherland — whom she has met socially a number of times — but hopes to soon.

“It’s filmed in blocks. They’re off in the desert or somewhere, we’re still in the studio.”

We’re also lucky enough to have Carlos Coto join the team. Carlos worked on 24 last year and is no stranger to time travel or Sci-Fi having spent time on Journeyman and Invasion. He’s been a great addition to the Heroes team.

Carlos Coto joined the 24 writing team midway through the seventh season following the departure of Joel Surnow. Coto received a co-writing credit with Evan Katz on Day 7 9:00pm-10:00pm and a story credit for Day 7 3:00am-4:00am.

Johnny Wu Domenick Lombardozzi

Johnny Wu posted on his blog that he booked a guest star role on 24 Season 8 (his first TV role) and began filming on June 19th:

I booked a great guest star role on FOX’s 8th season of “24″ as an NYPD rookie cop. Can’t give anymore away right now but the season airs in January 2010. I’ll give you guys a specific air date closer to the end of the year. Shout to my new representation team…James Suskin and everyone at TalentWorks for a great beginning. Shooting starts June 19th. Excited to act with Kiefer Sutherland. Y’all remember him from A Time to Kill? If not, check him out. Wasn’t such a good guy in that one. Worth the time. First TV credit…Playing New York cop. Reppin NYC hard on this one baby. Holla at me East Coast!

By Friday July 10th he had completed filming his scenes. He shares a few behind the scenes pictures from the set and the following writeup:

Update on my “24″ gig, it’s a recurring guest star now…ridiculous. Can’t wait to get back on set…very steep learning curve out there yall, hard…definitely hard, but fun as hell. Kiefer Sutherland, very pro, very cool. So I walk into my trailer and read the call sheet thinking “hmm, I wonder who’s playing my senior asshole NYPD partner…” The finger scans down the page and BAM it’s fuckin Domenick Lombardozzi. Now, if you’ve talked to me in the last couple of months, you know that I’ve watched the entire series of “The Wire” pretty much straight through. Domenick played “Herc” on that show and Vince’s friend Dom in Entourage. Fuckin awesome.

He also shared pictures of him preparing for the role:

Also, met J.D. Williams “Bodie” and went to the gun range with him and Peter, the night before my first day on set because I didn’t wanna play a cop without ever bustin off some shots…yea son!

The photo of the call sheet reveals that Wu will appear in the third (6:00PM-7:00PM, written by David Fury & Alex Gansa) and fourth (7:00PM-8:00PM, written by Chip Johannessen & Patrick Harbinson) episodes of 24 Season 8 – both of which were directed by Milan Cheylov.

LOS ANGELES — Kiefer Sutherland is back at work and, according to sources on the set of his hit TV series, 24, is staying as dry as salted cod. Sun Media has learned exclusively the eighth episode of the Fox thriller is now filming near a Marine base in the Mojave desert, east of Los Angeles.

While the Toronto-raised Sutherland still goes on benders on his days off — a pit stop not far from the set in a dusty town called Covina, Ca. on June 20th to slam some beers at a couple of local bars was chronicled in the local news — during the work week he’s a pro. “Kiefer is up at dawn like everyone else and does what he does and does it marvelously. Nobody is covering for him, nobody has to,” said a source working on the set.

After getting caught driving and drinking and repeatedly being in the news for public drunken altercations, the Toronto-born Sutherland openly admitted to a drinking problem. “I can’t deny half the stuff that’s been written about me has been true,” he admitted in a published interview. “I’ve done some stupid things. You have to take responsibility, go, ‘That was embarrassing,’ and move forward.”

Despite the monkey on his back, perhaps even because of it, Sutherland, 42, thrives when he turns on his Jack Bauer, the lead role in the wildly popular television series. “You can so tell the series is everything to him,” continued the source. “In the evening he eats, learns his lines and beds down. He’s in Jack Bauer mode and he’s saving the world.” Hey, whatever works. Let’s hope, for both Sutherland and its many fans’ sakes, 24 never ends.

Gregory Itzin

Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly flatly denied a return of the Emmy nominated Gregory Itzin (Charles Logan) for 24 Season 8.

Question: Is it true that Gregory Itzin will be back on 24 next season? –Arleen
Ausiello: That’s false.

Ausiello said the same thing just before the start of the seventh season which turned out to be correct. Let’s hope he is wrong this time around – the writers have only completed several scripts thus far, so there is still plenty of time to work his character into the story.

Ethan_Kanin_S7

With the news of Chris Diamantopoulos being cast as the Chief of Staff in Season 8, many 24 fans wondered what would happen to Bob Gunton’s character, Ethan Kanin.

Question: If Chris Diamantopoulos is playing Pres. Taylor’s new Chief of Staff on 24 next season, then where does that leave Bob Gunton (a.k.a. Ethan Kanin)? –Betty
Ausiello: Don’t worry about Ethan. He fares very well in the transition.

A week later, Ausiello clarified his statement a bit more with an asterisk puzzle for fans to solve.

Question: So does Ethan become the Vice President of 24 next season? Or maybe the new First Gentleman? –Chris
Ausiello: You’re wrong on both counts. According to an aide close to President Taylor, who asked not to be identified because he/she could get fired for talking to me, Ethan will be appointed the new ********* ** *****.

And finally, a week after on July 2, 2009 Ausiello confirmed the position as Secretary of State:

Question: With regard to your 24 asterisk quiz in last week’s Ask Ausiello, is it safe to say that Ethan will be promoted to Commander-in-Chief next season? –Neely
Ausiello: You’d be safer going with Secretary of State.
