24 Movie

24: The Movie is a planned feature film starring Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer.

FOX originally commissioned a script in 2006 by series co-creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran with showrunner Howard Gordon doing the story. The plan was to write the movie between the hiatus of Season 5 and 6 and then film it between the hiatus of Season 6 and Season 7. A 2008 release date was targeted.

These plans were too ambitious however and it was decided by the writers that a movie could only realistically be done after the series had ended.

At one point FOX executives considered a Die Hard/24 crossover film in which Jack Bauer and John McClane would appear in the same film together. A script had been imminent confirmed Live Free or Die Hard co-star Justin Long.

Plans for the movie became serious again in 2010 with screenwriter Billy Ray writing a first draft screenplay, although it was later rejected by the studio. Howard Gordon revealed it was to take place roughly eighteen months after the events of 24 Season 8 and be set in the United Kingdom, Prague, Serbia, and China. He mentioned Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) as a returning cast member.

In late 2010, award-winning director Tony Scott was in discussions with the studio to direct the film.
